Gun Control
There are so many different points of views to consider when thinking about gun laws and restrictions. I am interested in hearing feedback from people I actually know on this.
The way I see things may be a little more pro-active than others, but I realize that everyone is brought up differently especially around weapons. I think most peoples initial reaction when asked their opinion on the perfect gun laws would be to keep guns out of the hands of the bad guys.
I think keeping guns out of criminal’s hands is the most common and feel good answer out there, but the fact is, that is 100% impossible. That mentality shines when laws, rules, and restrictions are put into place in order to help “keep guns away from the bad guys”. All these restrictions do is make it harder for the law abiding citizens to buy and carry weapons. If a person is willing to read right past the law that says it is illegal to rape and murder , why would they stop to consider what the states laws are on carrying a weapon?
It is a very simple point, and no matter which side of the fence you stand, you have to agree with me when saying rules only apply to those that follow them.
I love hearing people’s unique point of view on guns. Do you agree with the right to bear arms? To what extent do you believe in it? Would you ever carry a firearm on your person for personal protection? Do you think that if faced in a life or death situation, without hesitation, you would be able to choose between your life and the person who is trying to take it?
I think there are a lot of people out there that do not see the need for it, and even more people that just feel that it is unnecessary. For the same reason that most people have burglar alarms installed AFTER their house is broken into. “We will get em next time tiger!” Before, they thought that it was safe enough, but nothing wakes you from that illusion faster than your safety being stripped from you in a moment. The “control” you think you have on life can be silenced any second of any day. Sadly, it usually takes experiencing it to believe it though.
I truly feel that the more responsible/sain people out there carrying weapons, the safer this world will be. If I could flip a switch and make every gun disappear on the planet, would I? No, cuz restrictions will never stop the criminal element. If they can’t point a gun at you, then they will find something to try and make you inferior. Lethal weapons can be made from something as simple as a Gatorade bottle, so making weapon rules just seems stupid to me. Obviously I don’t want to see every dingleberry in the world carry, but I would encourage everyone that is able to answer yes to the questions above to at least consider it. If you decide it is not for you, that is totally cool, but at least keep that freedom in mind when you are voting or when people make the awesome comments like “only criminals carry guns” or “why would you need one”.
Here is my friend’s girlfriend’s opinion. She was from California where gun laws are much stricter and the chances are that she was never brought up around any type of gun. (Which a lot of people grow up hearing guns are bad and that is all there is to it) So I understand where she is coming from, but I asked her, hypothetically, if someone ever held her down in a parking lot with a knife to her throat and tried to rape her, would she then feel the need for a weapon? She said yeah, mace (not my weapon of choice with a blade to my throat, but at least she is thinking defensively). I said ok well even more hypothetical, what if all you had on you was a gun. She thought and said I would not be able to shoot somebody raping me. I said what if they were done raping you and decided it was time to kill you? Could you then? She said, no, I would trade my life or body for somebody else’s; it would just be my time to go…
Argument ended there.. It wasn’t bullshit either, that was her honest answer. Of course when in that situation I think her mind would change. I just don’t see how a person could hold such high regards for the life of a person that is willing to rape or murder.
I would never use my weapon to protect “Things” (money or belongings), and do not think of myself as a C.O.P. (Citizen On Patrol) but feel it is my obligation to use this responsibility to protect life.

I think the California girl and the “C.O.P.” guy should meet. They are both delusional! I think she would be surprised if she was actually in that situations you described. I hope and pray that I do not know anyone that weak that they would let that happen to themselves without a fight.
Good read Ryan, Amberlee must have wrote it!
It was extremely frustrating for me to hear and impossible to understand. I can kind of understand someone feeling like they may have the best chance of surviving by cooperating, but it still boils down to a crap shoot. At the time of an attack, you have no idea what the criminal intends to do, and really you have no idea what you are going to do. It is a situational reaction, and to already have your game plan focused around surrendering and cooperating no matter what the situation blows my mind.
