No Gun Signs Work! Wait.. Nope.
Decided today to post about one of my biggest pet peeves, “No Guns Allowed” signs. I seriously don’t get it. How can an adult, who I assume is educated beyond the 12th grade since they are business owners, believe that these signs actually deter crime? How does one honestly and truly believe that a criminal (they are the ones who commit the crimes) would look at one of these signs on the door of the business and think, “Damn, I can’t rob this place as my gun is not allowed inside!” Are they really expecting these criminals to turn around and leave? Do you think they are going to leave your store and go rob a pro-gun store that allows them in?
Hell no!
If I was a criminal I would TARGET these places. All these signs do are keep law abiding weapon carriers out of the store. You see, the only people would would actually think twice about disarming because of your sign are the people that you do not need to worry about. People like me with concealed carry permits. People like me legally able to own a gun and carry a gun and who have gone through criminal and psychological background checks to get their permit.
Think of it in terms of a car alarm. Why do people buy and install them? Deterrence. If a car thief had his or her choice of 2 identical cars with identical contents but one had an alarm and one didn’t, which would they choose to rob? If are a liberal pansy you said, “Neither, as they will see the sign in between the cars that says No Car Thieves Allowed and they will leave!” Anyone that believes this nonsense is delusional.
Ask yourself why you almost NEVER hear of a gun store, where you know there is not one of these signs posted, getting robbed? Because the workers and the customers are ARMED. It has happened before and the dumb ass had more holes in him than Barry Bond’s steroid stories!
Take down your signs people. Let the law abiding customers come back to your stores. I for one don’t shop anywhere that has one of these signs. I don’t want my money going towards raising the moron’s offspring that hung that sign. Hopefully the tape or glue used to hang it makes them sterile so the stupidity can stop there. I’ll take my business elsewhere.
Is it an actual law in Oklahoma that you must obey those signs?
In texas we basically just look for 2 signs.

Technically the first sign has to be in black and white with 1″ block lettering or else it’s not even binding.
But I believe in Texas if you disobey a “no handgun sign” like the one you posted, you are not breaking a law by carrying, but if you were say asked to leave because someone knew you were carrying, then you are required to obey their wish. I could easily be wrong, but that is my take on it. I can really only think of 2 reasons anyone would ever know you were carrying though…

That is one of the largest debates among CCW holders in Oklahoma. There is no spelled out law that you MUST obey the signs. Some say that you can just ignore them. If you are asked to leave because of your “concealed” (it is concealed right so who knows it is there) handgun and refuse you can be cited with trespassing. Some also think it is covered under the business owner’s rights statues and you must obey them.
Huge Huge debate. I don’t even bother with the stores that have them. Like I said above, I don’t what those idiots having my money.
sorry my signs didn’t show up. I think you have the best idea by simply not supporting them. too bad they will never actually know the reason for losing that business, but like you said they are idiots so who cares.
